Business Letter

  1. Look for style of Business Letter

Definition & The Advantages of Each Style
  •  Full Block Style

This style is widely used across the globe. This style does not use any indent at all. Every single line is typed from the left-hand side. Since this style demands less number of keystrokes, this style increases the speed of the typist.
Even for computer typing, this style is more convenient. Note that this style does not use comma after every line in the address. This is also reducing the number keystrokes required. But the proper punctuations are added properly.
  • Block Style

When we use the block form to write a business letter, all the information is typed flush left, with one-inch margins all around. First provide your own address, then skip a line and provide the date, then skip one more line and provide the inside address of the party to whom the letter is addressed. If you are using letterhead that already provides your address, do not retype that information; just begin with the date. For formal letters, avoid abbreviations where possible.
Skip another line before the salutation, which should be followed by a colon. Then write the body of your letter as illustrated here, with no indentation at the beginnings of paragraphs. Skip lines between paragraphs.
  • Semi Block Style

in a format this text parallel left and all paragraphs in the letter is indented. Format shape on this letter on letter head, date, complementary a close, and signature being in a position flattened right. In the layout uneven right, but can called flattened middle. Other parts on a letter as inside address, subject, salutation, body of letter, and if there attachment letter, Being flattened on the left.

  •  Indented Style

An indented letter style is a letter-writing style where the paragraphs are indented, and the date, closing and signature start at the center of the line. The paragraphs are typically indented by half an inch.
The indented letter format is not popular in modern business correspondence. Lynn Gaertner-Johnston of Syntax Training says that using the indented format can be an indication that the letter sender or the firm he is representing is traditional or in other word it’s not modern.
  • Simplified Style

This is another modification of the fully-blocked style. This style is used when you write a letter and you do not know the name and title of the person to whom you are writing the letter. The salutation and the complimentary closing are used in this style. The subject is mentioned in capital fonts and that subject need not be underlined
Today around all the business houses, this style is widely used when the writer of the letters does not want to give importance to formality. Since the formality is not adopted here, this style goes to the heart of the addressee. This style give more importance only to the core matter of the letter.
  • Hanging - Indented Style

This very useful style places the first words of each paragraph prominently on the page. It is useful for letters that deal with a variety of different topics. However, for normal business communications, this style is very rarely used.
The first line of the paragraph begins at the left-hand margin. And the other lines of the same paragraph are indented three to four spaces. This is the reversal of semi-indented style discussed in other page.
